Orientation/User Awareness Programme
|
An orientation programme is organized by the college for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year where in the library also plays an active role. The student’s are taken around the library to familiarize them with various resources and services available for them. Students are informed and trained to Identify resources, evaluate them and to use the resources more effectively and ethically.

Circulation / Home lending
|
Student members of KJSCE will be issued a RFID Smart card, which will remain in force for the duration of the study year and shall not be transferable.

Self-renewal of books
|
Library allows users to ‘Self Renew’ borrowed books through WebOPAC (Faculty- 4 times per book & Staff & Student- 1 time per book) on or before due date. Overdue books are not allowed for ‘Self Renewal’.

Online Reservation of books
|
Reservations can be made through WebOPAC on books that are not currently available in the library. As soon as the reserved book returns, users will be intimated through an automatic email & SMS. The book will be kept reserved for one day. Books which have reservations are not allowed for ‘Self Renewal’.

Global Common Circulation (GCC)
– Inter Library Loan
|
Global Common Circulation is adopted for the campus libraries by which any student or faculty member belonging to any of Somaiya Institutions can avail the KJSCE library facility. Similarly, KJSCE students can also avail the library facilities of other Somaiya Institutions.

Reminders
|
Reminders are sent to the users in order to remind them about the library resources that they need to return. A Gentle Reminder email is sent seven days before due date of a book to faculty and staff and one day before the due date of a book to the students. An Overdue Reminder email and SMS is sent after the due date of a book to all users periodically. An Intimation Reminder email is sent to users if any book issued by them has a reservation. Also, an intimation email and SMS is sent to the user who has reserved the book, about the availability of the reserved book.

Book bank
|
Book Bank Scheme was started in the year 1993 for the benefit of the needy and under privileged students. Students can borrow maximum 10 books of their choice from the books available in the Book Bank. Students are required to pay 15% of the total cost of the books taken by them as reading fee. The books taken from the Book Bank have to be returned to the library at the end of the academic year.

SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information)
|
Every department has their identified thrust areas of research; library keeps them abreast by sending mails regarding recent articles published in their areas of research. Library keeps a record of individuals doing research in a particular area, and relevant research articles, updates on seminars/conferences to be held and other related information are sent by email.

Current awareness service
|
Current content pages of print journals are scanned and sent on mail for ready reference. The same is made available on Intra-Net.

Reprographic Services
|
Photocopy counter is provided on the 4th floor of the library in the periodical section which caters to the need of the users.

Anti-Plagiarism Software Turnitin
|
Turnitin is a leading software used by researchers all over the world for checking originality and prevention of plagiarism. Library has subscribed this software to inculcate best practices while using / citing material written by other people. UG as well as PG students and faculty members are encouraged to check their thesis / publications using this software.

GATE Practice Software
|
Library has installed a collection of question papers of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) over last 17 years on the college server. This covers more than 1200 questions of each branch of engineering and helps students to prepare not only for GATE but also for other competitive exams, interviews, etc.

Open access facility
|
The library has adopted the Open Access System where in users can browse through the collection directly from the shelves as a result of which they are aware of the library collection.

Internet and Wi-Fi Access
|
Wi-Fi facility is provided in all sections of the library. All users are provided with Somaiya Vidyavihar SVV Net ID which is used for accessing Internet, Wifi and Web OPAC.

To optimize the use of E-resources and for the convenience of the users, library has procured RemoteXs solution through which all the subscribed E-resources can be accessed remotely.

Institutional Membership
|
IIT Bombay Central Library.
The library has access to IIT Bombay Central Library, DELNET and National Digital Library. Users can access IIT Library only on working days (Monday through Friday) between 09:30am to 05:30pm. Users should carry their Smart Card and a letter of introduction from Librarian which is available at reference section.
DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries.
National Digital Library Ministry of Human Resource Development under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology has initiated the National Digital Library (NDL) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility.

Star Reader
|
Every year the library selects four ‘Star Readers’ of the library from the current calendar year and felicitates them during the Marathi Bhasha Diwas celebration in the month of February. Star readers are selected on the basis of statistics of maximum number of books borrowed by the student.

Student’s Library Committee
|
Every year the college forms the Student’s Library Committee where in the students are given an opportunity to get involved in the decision making processes. The Committee provides direct communication between students and the administrators of the Library.
